How itsmypost.com works

The prospect of having to let dozens maybe hundreds of companies know that you do not want their mail would be a daunting if not thankless task.  Most of us simply put up with the daily bombardment of unwanted mail.

Around 10 minutes is all it will take to tell hundreds of companies that you no longer want to receive their mail.  There are three simple choices:

  1. Postal - this will generate automated letters that you then print off and post to your selected companies.  This service is free, however remember that you will have to pay for Recorded Delivery post as recommended by the Information Commissioner's Office.

  2. Electronic - this generates automated emails that get sent directly to your selected companies.  This service costs £4.95 a year, but there are no postage costs so if you intend to send more than five letters it will save you money.

  3. Mailing Preference Service (MPS) - This links you directly to the DMA (UK) website so you can register on the MPS file.  This is widely used by DMA members and other companies.  It will not stop mail from companies that you have dealt with in the past, it will only stop mail from companies that you have not had contact with before.

The law is simple; if you communicate directly with these companies and tell them you do not want their mail, then they must stop. What the service does is allow you to send an email or letter directly using the suggested wording of the Information Commissioner's Office.

If you choose the postal option, we will automatically send you an email of all the letters, complete with your address and the correct wording (click here for example) that you can simply print off, sign and post. Please bear in mind that the Information Commissioner recommends that you send any letter by Recorded Delivery, therefore to print off and post each one will cost you around £1.  If you want to send more than five letters, it will be more cost effective for you to use our electronic service for £4.95. By using this service you can send emails to hundreds of companies for the one price.

Once the company you have selected has received your email or letter they are obliged by law to remove you from their database or mailing list.  However, it is that company's right to satisfy themselves that the request is legitimate and they may therefore send you a letter which confirms this.  It is important to remember that in some cases companies will prepare mailings many months in advance and it may take a few months for this mail to stop altogether.

Also, the service has been designed to be brand specific; so you could be writing to A&B Financial Services asking them to stop mailing you but that will not stop mail from A&B Retail Stores. The key point being that this service is about your choices. It may well be that you don’t want a A&B loan or credit card but you may still want to receive their housewares catalogue; if you want to stop both simply click the right boxes - the choice is yours.
