Barry Keoghan was born in April of 1993 in Dublin, Ireland, to an Irish mother and a Nigerian father. He is the youngest of four children. His siblings are two sisters named Aoife and Blathnaid and a brother named Darren. Barry’sBarry’s parents separated when he was two years old, and his mother raised the four children independently. Barry’sBarry’s mother worked as a nurse, and his father was a musician.

Barry has said that his father’s father’s death profoundly affected him and made him more “emotionally aware.” Barry attended primary school at St. Paul’sPaul’s CBS in Greenhills, Dublin 12. He then went to secondary school at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Clontarf, Dublin 3.

Barry said he was a “mixed-race kid in an all-white area,” and was bullied for his race. After completing secondary school, Barry studied acting at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin. He graduated from the school in 2013.
