Wax and oil vaporizers look very identical. They are among the most popular devices in the concentrate industry. They are an easier and healthier method to consume concentrates such as vape oils, e-liquids/ e-juice, wax, and dry herbs.
If you ever walk into a vaporizer shop, telling the difference between wax and oil vaporizers can be a huge challenge. Consequently, many people often use the words, wax vaporizers, and oil vaporizers, interchangeably.
Below are some of the key differences between wax and oil vaporizers.
1:Oil vs Wax concentrates.
Wax vaporizers are meant for vaping wax concentrates, while oil vaporizers are used to vaporize vape oil/ e-liquids/ vape juices. The nature of these two concentrates is distinctive. Wax concentrates are thick and relatively solid (waxy) in nature and oil concentrates look like the normal oil that is infused with cannabis.
Besides, wax vaporizers require more power than oil vaporizers due to the nature of concentrates they are designed to vaporize. However, some brands have come up with unique vaporizers that can do more than one type of concentrate, including wax, oil and even dry herb/ flower concentrates.
2:Vape coils vs vape cartridges.
Another difference between wax and oils vaporizers is based on the apparatus used to vaporize their concentrates.
Generally, wax vaporizers utilize an atomizer coils system to vaporize the wax concentrates. Usually, these coils do burn up or get gummed up, which makes them subject to frequent replacement. On the other hand, most oil vaporizers exist as disposable cartridges. These cartridges require less maintenance and cleaning as they are meant for disposal after the pre-filled vape oil in them gets exhausted.
You can also obtain a larger atomizer for oil vaporizers in the form of 510 threads and box mods. However, you will eventually replace them like wax vaporizers’ coils.
The process of loading a wax vaporizer with a wax concentrate is very different from loading an oil vaporizer with oil.
Due to the nature of wax concentrates, they can get messy and sticky. As a result, wax vaporizers usually come with a small metallic rod, which is otherwise referred to as the loading tool or a dab tool. This rod ensures you efficiently and safely load your wax concentrate onto the vape.
Whenever you are loading a wax vaporizer, you should take caution and not touch the coil with the dab tool. The coil is a very sensitive accessory and any slight scratch on it can affect its performance and life.
On the contrary, oil vaporizers do not require a dab tool. Most of these vapes feature either a top-refill system or a side-refill system, through which you can load your oil concentrates once they get exhausted.
Recently, some brands have come up with oil vaporizers that function like normal straws. This type of oil vaporizer enables you to directly vape from your oil concentrate container, without having to load. They are more efficient, portable (light and small), and easy to use.
4:Maintenance of wax and oil vaporizers.
Wax concentrates are sticky and can easily clog your vape’s mouthpiece and chamber. Thus, wax vaporizers require more maintenance practices than oil vaporizers.
Some common maintenance practices for wax vaporizers include cleaning them appropriately (very often) and replacing the coil/ atomizer when necessary. Always use cotton swabs, dipped in particular solvents such as isopropyl alcohol, to clean your vaporizer. You should also leave your wax vaporizer upright after use because the wax will still be hot and flow due to gravity pull. Besides, you can increase the coil life of your wax vaporizer by regularly and carefully scraping away excess wax/ residue.
Nonetheless, oil concentrates in oil vaporizers are less dense and less messy. They do not leak easily. However, you should occasionally clean or scrap of any excess concentrate on these vapes when necessary, especially if they are refillable.
A majority of vaporizers, both oil and wax, usually have adjustable temperature settings. Since wax vaporizers require more power to vaporize the concentrates, their range of optimal vaping temperatures is usually higher than that of oil vaporizers.
On average, the optimal temperature range for vaping wax is 350-400°F, while that of vaping oil is 315-385°F. You can choose to vape at a higher temperature; they are likely to make harsh hits that come with a burnt taste.
Wax vaporizers may require extra maintenance but they deliver highly potent vapor. Furthermore, oil vaporizers are excellent when vaping specific concentrates such as CBD. Both types of vaporizers are usually portable and discrete.
