Once an overlooked holiday, Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is now receiving the recognition it deserves – in Chicago, that is, the south has always heavily celebrated Juneteenth. In fact, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. People across the Chicago will celebrate Juneteenth this Friday with car caravans, rallies and online parties. There will be car caravans, rallies, giveaways, online concerts and more to mark this Juneteenth. Here are some of the best Juneteenth Events happening in Chicago this month.

3) 3rd Annual Juneteenth Flow

Yoga teaches us the importance of pausing, being still, becoming more aware of self, and connecting with the life force within us all: breath.

Join us Saturday, June 18th OR Sunday, June 19th for Literal Unwine’s 3rd Annual Juneteenth Flow. Class attendance is free, however if you’d like to make a donation, all proceeds will be given to Rose Cafe (see more details below). All experience levels are welcome.

4) Juneteenth 5K Walk/Run

Join us for our 2nd Annual Juneteenth 5K Walk/Run at Garfield Park, Celebrating Juneteenth, movement and wellness in our community.

Peace Runners 773 will be hosting the 2nd annual Juneteenth 5K Walk/Run, taking place June,18 2022 at Garfield Park Football field. This year’s Juneteenth celebration Peace Runners 773 will be raising money for the local football team Garfield Park Gators Youth & Football. We encourage everyone to donate as we continue to build and help our community.

5) 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee & Resource Fair

We invite you to join us in our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee and Resource Fair to honor and celebrate the holiday’s importance. Last year, Voice of the People hosted the event as way for neighbors to come together and break free from the pandemic isolation, while re-igniting the positive energy of the community. Little did we know that President Biden would finally sign legislation making Juneteenth a federal holiday to commemorate the end of slavery across the nation. And, as such, Voice is dedicated to making this year’s event even bigger of a celebration!

The Fair will host a variety of community partners with informational tables set up around the event space. There will be free games, prizes, food, and live entertainment assuring fun for everyone!

6) Ladies of Virtue 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee

Join Us for our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Jubilee as we honor our past and celebrate our future.
Ladies of Virtue and CHAMPS Mentoring come together to Celebrate Juneteenth. The event is open to families and youth of all ages. Join us Saturday June 18th from 1pm to 4pm for a day of fun activities, food, live DJ and more. Youth performances from LOV and CHAMPS will start at 2pm.
