Whether the scar is new or older, has taken a while to heal and is thickened and lumpy, or has a pale or dark appearance and is raised, we can determine if treatment options are right for you.

What Is Scar Removal?

Your skin is quite fragile and when it suffers an injury, such as a cut or graze, it will start to heal itself by forming a scar. Scarring is usually a normal part of the body’s defensive reactions which form new collagen fibers in the wound to fight off infection, other substances are formed that make it stronger too. The process holds your skin together where the injury has happened and prevents additional infections from developing.

When your skin has been damaged, whether it’s through an active acne outbreak or a trauma to the skin such as a wound, burn, abrasion, or even a surgical procedure like laser hair removal, scarring is a natural part of your skin’s healing process. It’s important to remember that everyone scars differently – some people have allergic reactions to products and develop more visible damage, whereas others benefit from more resilient skin and are less likely to suffer post-inflammatory reactions like pigmentation and scarring. The affected area will develop new collagen fibers that hold the skin together during the healing process, we call these “scars”. When using skin care products for scar removal treatment, it’s important to note that the results can be enhanced by supporting the treatment with lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise.

Scar Removal Treatments

There are several effective ways in which our specialists minimize the appearance of scars and improve the overall texture and condition of your skin. We offer a range of treatment methods that include peels, micro-needling, laser treatments, radiofrequency, collagen induction therapy, and more. All procedures are quick and painless, with little to no downtime required. We’ll discuss your scar history, ask about your lifestyle, before recommending the most appropriate method for you.

Steroid injections

We use a particular injection technique for hypertrophic and keloid scars to minimize the complications of scar reduction. The needles are very small, so the injections are not painful, but most people will experience some soreness for a couple of days after treatment.

You may need multiple scar treatments over several months to achieve the desired result. Your doctor will discuss how long your treatment course will last, depending on the size and depth of your scar.

Topical Treatments

Silicone gel sheets are very effective at reducing the appearance of hypertrophic and keloid scars. They are particularly good at preventing and reducing keloid and hypertrophic scars when used with pressure dressings. Alternatively, silicone gels such as kelocote may be used. These also work extremely well at reducing the appearance of hypertrophic and keloid scars.

Lasers

Our dermatologists are trained to treat scars and skin conditions. And they have access to many different types of laser, some of which can be used to reduce the appearance of scars whilst others are effective at decreasing the redness associated with scars by targeting the small blood vessels around a scar.

Laser resurfacing, using lasers to burn away the damaged skin layers, may improve some types of scars. This is a treatment option for keloids and hypertrophic scars. Laser treatment works on the upper layers of skin to stimulate new collagen production, so the tissue can expand and fill in the scar.

Fractional Lasers

Fractional lasers are a step up from traditional laser treatments. Rather than delivering treatment in one large coverage area, fractional lasers deliver it in tiny fractions or pixels, allowing for more precision and less disruption to your life. These fractional lasers are able to help treat scarring without as much disruption to your life because redness and peeling associated with lasers are much reduced afterward.

Fillers

Dermal fillers improve the appearance of scars by injecting your skin with a filler that fills in the scar so that it is flush with the surrounding skin, diminishing its appearance. These types of fillers are not permanent because they are eventually absorbed into the body. Meaning that in about six to nine months you will need a touch-up injection, but the improvement can last for up to two years.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger-looking. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles and scars usually on the face. A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a way for you to help reduce the appearance of scarring, large pores, and fine wrinkles by removing damaged surface skin cells. We also offer micro-needling treatment.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive scar treatment that works by stimulating collagen production in the deeper layers of skin. Your skincare consultant will analyze your particular case to determine which type of treatment best meets your needs.

Surgical Scar Revision
