Screw terminal blocks are those that have a screw as a method of connecting a cable or wire. It is more common to see screws with flathead fittings and these types of terminals are often found in situations where voltage and current demands will moderate (domestic / commercial wiring). Although the wires connected to a terminal block are not physically connected with the use of soldering, they are incredibly strong when done correctly and can be used in permanent settings. Barrier terminals

It is very similar to screw terminals in that they use screws as a mechanism to hold the wires. Barrier terminal blocks often have more than one termination point for multiple wires and therefore have small barriers between the individual terminals. Barrier terminals may also have caps and enclosures to further protect the wiring and commonly found in home wiring. And other high voltage scenarios that need to prevent arcing or potential shorts.

Snap-on terminals

Plug-in terminal blocks use small spring-loaded levers that allow wires to enter the terminal block in one direction but do not allow them to exit, effectively holding the wire in place; hence the name “push-fit”. This type of connector has some advantages over screw terminals in that it prevents over-tightening, but as a result, the designer relies on the spring having sufficient force to keep the wire in contact with the conducting body. Another problem with plug-in terminals that some  not design. To reuse and lack a removal lever, making repair jobs difficult as entire terminals may need to replace.

Plug-in terminal blocks are those that have a cable entry to allow connection of a wire or cable, but a socket to allow for easy connection to a socket. These types of terminal blocks are very useful in situations where hot swapping may be important or where a connection expect to detachable for maintenance or inspection. Screw contacts are the most common type of connection method for inserted wires, but the screw often has a small metal plate attached to the end, which allows you to connect small and large wires.
