What are the Uses of Inconel Grade 625

What are Inconel 625

Inconel is an alloy composed primarily of nickel and chromium in varying proportions. It is a very good alloy due to its resistance to high-temperature oxidation and can withstand temperatures of up to 2200°F. Inconel’s chemical composition is exceptional, with 61.5 percent nickel, 22.5 percent chromium, and 0.05 percent carbon. The presence of carbon makes the alloy stronger and more durable. It has a tensile strength of 80000 Psi and can yield up to 30000 at a 35 percent elongation. Inconel 601 is also very ductile. Inconel grades include Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 625, Inconel 800, and Inconel 825. In this blog, we will focus on Inconel 625.

The 625, as an Inconel grade, is similar to Inconel in some ways. Because of the availability of Nickel and Chromium, the grade is extremely resistant to corrosion and many harsh conditions. The nickel content in Inconel 625 is 58 percent minimum, chromium is 20-23 percent, and molybdenum is 10.0 percent. What distinguishes 625 is the presence of columbium and tantalum together at 4.15 percent. Inconel 625 has a tensile strength of 910 MPa, yield strength of 468 MPa, and elongation of 47 percent.

The non-magnetic property of 625 is one of its properties. Because it is made of nickel, the alloy is resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Many corrosive conditions, including salt water, fresh water, alkaline, salts, and all types of air, do not affect grade 625. The grade can be obtained through hot working, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 2100° F. Inconel 625 is used in a variety of applications and is forged into shapes such as pipes, tubes, sheets, plates, coils, flanges, pipe fittings, fasteners, and so on. All of these products are widely used around the world.

Application of Inconel 625

The alloy 625 is widely used in a variety of industries. De-aerating heaters, Marine engineering, Chemical, and hydrocarbon processing equipment, Gasoline and freshwater tanks, Boiler feed water heaters, and others, all of the industries mentioned above rely heavily on Inconel 625 because it is an alloy that can withstand the harsh conditions and temperatures of the industries.

This alloy is also stronger, so it is intended to be used for such purposes. Inconel 625 products are widely used in chemical processing by converting them into stronger and more durable pipes. This alloy can also withstand chemicals.

Power generation, heat treating muffles and retorts, radiator tubes, catalyst support grids in nitric acid production, aerospace, heat treating industry, and so on.

Because Inconel 625 equipment is much stronger, it is suitable for such applications. Every industry mentioned is rigorous and harsh, so Inconel 625 comes in handy. These are the distinctions between the two alloys, but each has its own set of applications.
