Which e-bike battery capacity should I choose?

How far the e-bike can go with one battery charge depends on various factors. On the one hand how much power the battery can deliver and on the other hand how efficiently the motor handles it. Of course, other factors such as rider weight, weather conditions and the selected support level also play a role. The capacity in watt hours (Wh) describes the amount of energy that the battery can provide over one hour. In general, the  larger the capacity of the battery (Wh), the further you can ride it.

The energy storage (Wh) is calculated from the operating voltage in volts (V) multiplied by the nominal charge in ampere hours (Ah). However, this value is not yet an indication of the amount of energy in the battery. For a given voltage (V), however, it is a good idea to estimate how long energy can be released and how much energy is stored.

Rated Charge (Amp-Hour, Ah) x Voltage (Volt, V) = Energy Storage Capacity (Watt-Hour, Wh)

Calculation example: A battery with 10 Ah and 26 V has 260 Wh. If the battery has only 8 Ah, but a voltage of 36 V, that is 288 Wh, i.e. a larger capacity.

How you can influence the range

There are a number of things you can do yourself to extend the range of the e-bike drive. The most energy is consumed by factors such as a permanently high level of support, air resistance and ground conditions, rider weight and tire pressure. Of course, paths with many inclines also play a decisive role.

How do I find a new e-bike replacement battery?

The first thing to do is to clarify where the battery is mounted on the e-bike such as gforce t41. On the lower tube of the frame, on the seat tube or under the luggage rack? This is very important because the new battery has to be placed there again.

The replacement battery for your e-bike must of course also fit the respective drive system. It is therefore important to find out which drive is installed. A sticker with the relevant information is usually attached to the battery itself. There is the name of the manufacturer and the  voltage in volts (V). Make a note of this information to find a new e-bike battery. Otherwise you can try to find out the right drive online using type designations or numbers.

The battery size: How much capacity is necessary?

The technical development in the field of rechargeable batteries is progressing rapidly. Significantly larger batteries for e-bikes and pedelecs are now available than they were a few years ago.

When choosing the size of the replacement battery, it is therefore crucial how the e-bike is mainly used. Because the larger the battery, the more expensive and heavier it is. A smaller battery is often sufficient for shorter distances in everyday life.

Replacement battery: original part or alternative product

This question is not so easy to answer either. The original contains safe and coordinated technology. A functioning quality management system is also usually certified. The replica, on the other hand, is often much cheaper to buy. With particularly old e-bikes, buying a no-name product can sometimes be a good idea. It is better to equip newer bikes with an original part. There are usually no problems here and the exchange works smoothly. In any case, the replacement battery should at least have passed a CE test.
